So I have been wanting to start a blog for quite some time now, but couldn't really justify it. I didn't know what I would write about until I started thinking about all of the wonderful places that our family has traveled. I usually send out a few pictures of our trips, but figured that by creating a blog I could talk about our fun vacations and also include the small (or large) things that are going on in our lives. Here goes:
Last month we were fortunate enough to take a family vacation to Hawaii. We visited the island of Maui and absolutely fell in love with it! We stayed in an area called Kahana, but we toured all over the island. The beaches were just beautiful and the weather was perfect, warm but not too hot. The Hawaiian culture and the people are always so welcoming and wonderful. Since the girls are such beach goers, we spent the majority of our time visiting different beaches. Bo and I were just as happy as they were to sit (and play) on the beach for hours and not worry about what we were going to do next. It was a very relaxing trip but we managed to do a few excursions while we were there. Since it was whale season, we took the kids on a whale watching cruise for a couple of hours and I was amazed at all the "whale action" we saw. We saw so many whales that the girls lost interest and wanted to know when the ride was going to be over so we could go back to the beach. We decided to drive to the Haleakala crater to check out the view. We went from sea level to 10,000 feet in two hours (not including the many potty stops)! It was a beautiful drive and the air was crisp like it is in our mountains back home. I was surprised at how well Addi and Mia did on the hike. It was very rocky, but they loved the climb and the adventure. We also visited the Maui ocean center (aquarium) which was very interesting and a huge hit with the kids. Of course we attended a Hawaiian luau as well and it was so much fun!!! It took place at the Hyatt Regency which is an amazing resort. The girls found a lizard while we were waiting to go inside and they we so worried that it was all alone. To this day, they still include that poor little lizard in their nightly prayers. Addi and Mia were also invited to do the hula on stage with the dancers. They loved it, and it was darling! As for the long flights, I was amazed at how well a 3 and 5 year old can do. My two little social butterflies made many friends on the way there and by the end of the flight they were entertaining the passengers around us with their knock-knock jokes. For the red eye flight on the way home I put their pajamas on and they slept practically the whole time. It was great!
Pics of our vacation are on the slideshow!
